My Sweet Gilt Chair

Once the carpet was out I started to think about the interior space.  The carpet going away was key as now I could finally see the real room, with just the beautiful hardwood floors and the French bed.  Since I had decided at the start that I wanted to use pieces I had, I thought to use this pretty gilt chair, bought this chair in Old Town Orange for a song a long time ago.   You have seen in a dozen or more times; it was in the Romantic Homes Give Freely layout, holding a stack of linens on top.  It shows up in my market booths from time to time though I use it less as it’s not for sale.  I could have sold it 100 times, maybe that’s why I don’t trot it around as much, everyone wants to buy it!

I can’t get enough of chippy gilt French style side chairs; buy them when you can; this one is delicate and aged, with red gesso and gilt and the works; I have loved the detail, and it has been a great accent piece~

The current seat is solid enough, but this is a pretty accent chair, I don’t use it to sit on a lot; perfect for a guest room.  It was originally a caned seat, though that fell through, literally, and it was then webbed on top~

Again using what is on hand, I had some silk velvet…this is high end stuff, from a previous project.  I save every scrap of this stuff!

I had left the chair at my seamstress before; she marked the piece with my name~ this is why you see it in shoots covered in linens~

But I got the tools out….I can do this myself, I think…..

A little tuck and a little glue~

I think it will just work~

And she was very very pretty!!!  I am so happy with the new chair~

This will look great in my new little guest room, which I am of course going to do in French style~

At this point I started to think about what else to do with the room….the gold chair was the start, here with the fabric draped over it….how about drapes with them…here tacked up on a nail~
